Ultraspace

Ultraspace is a 3 month long passion project I have been working on as a hobbyist solo developer. It is an attempt to provide an engaging space strategy game where the focus is on the details that makes up running a space civilisation. It is an incredibly early build, though hopefully it can provide some entertainment for a few hours. Its Free! (as in beer)

You will need to provide food, water, jobs, stability, security and law and order to your population. Your ships will need to be staffed with specialised members of your population which you can delicately balance with salary levels. Trade prices move up and down based on supply and demand that you create (and the AI factions). 

Your population go to work in the industries you create, they receive salaries, they pax taxes and tariffs, they can receive unemployment subsidies. They eventually may accrue enough wealth to build private industries. All resources are physical items that exist in ships/colonies.

You play in the shadow of a collapsed civilisation, you will see different markers in space and on planet surfaces of old collapsed buildings, dilapidated infrastructure, relics etc. Thats why the galactic population is only a few 100 thousand.

Quickstart guide for new players:

1. Press right arrow to select your colony ship
2. Get started on a shipyard straight away ("Upgrades" tab)
3. Now look around for an asteroid that has revealed sectors, with orange recoverabilities.
4. If you cant find one, build an explorer and move it to a nearby asteroid. Click 'Autoprobe' to have it auto probe all sectors.
5. Move the colony ship to the asteroid you want to mine.
6. Build the smallest extractor ship
7. Have it 'Automine' (this just has it return and dump its cargo when it is done)
8. Now you have some ore, you can sell it, or make it into something. Get started trading, get some water, then build hydroponics. Just use the Colony overview screen to keep everything balanced.
